Direct to DVD (Blackhat)
I read today that a movie I saw last week in Thailand will be going direct to DVD in Australia. "Blackhat" was supposed to be released in Australian cinemas in March but now will bypass the cinemas and be released on DVD in May. The US box office can often be used as a gauge of how successful a movie will be in Australia. It's often said that a Hollywood movie released in Australia makes 10% of the US box office total. Because of the poor box office results of "Blackhat", you will no longer be able to see this at the cinema in Australia. Other films in the past couple of years that were withdrawn from cinema release due to indifferent US box office results include "Bullet to the Head" starring Sylvester Stallone, "Sabotage" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, "Escape Plan" staring both Stallone and Schwarzenegger and James Brown's biopic "Get on Up".
