a walk among the tombstones

A Walk Among the Tombstones (Drama/Mystery): 70 out of 100: If you are expecting a Liam Neeson action movie which he has been so proficient in making in recent years, you will be extremely disappointed. However, if you don't mind a slow burning crime mystery, then you will be duly rewarded.

Liam Neeson plays a retired officer of the law who quit due to alcoholism which had profound effects. Now acting as a private detective eight years later, he is hired to investigate the kidnap and murder of a woman. It is here where he enters the world of criminals and drugs.

The movie doesn't have many action scenes and will disappoint those who like a fast pace. However, if you don't mind a cleverly constructed plot with some very good characterisations, then it won't matter that the movie has few action scenes. It is a gritty drama that makes you try to solve the jigsaw and the flashbacks actually help in this instance. Unfortunately, just about every second movie these days has slow motion scenes and this one is no exception and they intrude on the dramatic scenes.

"A Walk Among the Tombstones" is an interesting vehicle for Liam Neeson and he proves that he doesn't only have to star in straight out action pieces to perform with distinction.
