big hero 6

Big Hero 6: (Animated/Family): 71 out of 100: To this viewer, this is the ultimate popcorn movie because there isn't too much deep and meaningful and it's not entirely memorable. However, it is a fun ride for most of the film and should appeal to children and adults alike.

The best thing about the movie is lovable, inflatable Baymax the robot. He joins prodigy Hiro Hamada along with his friends to form a group of hi-tech heroes. Hiro has invented something he feels would benefit society although the masked villain has different thoughts and uses the invention to wreak havoc.

There are some fun scenes to be enjoyed with a few laughs. However, I would have liked a bit more interaction between Hiro and Baymax to develop the characterisation. The other characters serve their purpose of being sidekicks but again, there needed to be more character development to make this an animated classic.

One cannot argue with the animation. There is a rich palette of colours that will definitely attract the younger audience. The music score is also a true representation of the superhero genre with rollicking, energetic tunes that complement the visuals well.

"Big Hero 6" is a fun addition to the superhero family and with the amount it has made at the US box office, it sure wouldn't surprise to see a sequel. Here's hoping that further characterisation will elevate the franchise to super animated status.
