dawn of the planet of the apes

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Action): 83 out of 100: Here is a blockbuster that combines solid characterisation with excellent action.

The apes are utterly convincing and the opening scenes especially lay the groundwork to the way they live. It's in these scenes where the character relationships are developed. The apes led by Caesar from "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is played superbly by the king of motion capture, Andy Serkis. Surely it's about time he's rewarded with an Oscar nomination for such a performance. The apes seem to demonstrate a more human range of emotions than the human cast, where a touch of stereotyping is displayed. The visual effects primarily in the form of motion capture and CGI are breathless and eye catching, while the sound effects and music score are sensational.

Those who prefer 3D might be disappointed that many scenes are filmed at night so it's best to see this in 2D where you will experience and enjoy a genuine American summer blockbuster.
