the keeper of lost causes

The Keeper of Lost Causes (Drama/Thriller): 69 out of 100: This Danish language film is bleak in tone and occasionally, lighting. It has the same screenwriter as the original version of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" so those accustomed to that movie will experience the same type of seriousness in this one.

The flashback scenes hamper the flow of the movie but they are rather necessary to explain the predicament of the lead female character. For a movie that has been billed as a thriller, the tension only happens towards the end which might disappoint some viewers. It is more of a gritty drama than a tense and exciting thriller.

If you're after a whodunnit then you will feel let down by the revelation of the perpetrator about halfway through the film. All actors perform admirably and demonstrate the appropriate emotions of their characters.

If you don't mind reading subtitles then this is a satisfactory addition to your foreign language film list.
