the november man

The November Man (Action/Thriller): 66 out of 100: This is a competent entry in the action genre but it could have been so much better where it had the chance to be elevated to the Bond and Bourne class.

Although there is a fair bit of tension generated and the action scenes are efficiently filmed, the main problem with this film is the plot which is incoherent at times and filled with some holes. Also, there are stereotypes and cliches to fill two action movies.

It is great to see Pierce Brosnan back in James Bond territory and he shows that age hasn't wearied him. He still has the ability to star in action movies and proves that Liam Neeson isn't the only one around his age who can make them. Olga Kurylenko is the other member with a Bond connection but she has pretty much been reduced to a damsel in distress.

There is some wonderful location shooting in places like Serbia and Montenegro to add an extra dimension to the film. The music score also adequately complements the dramatic and action scenes.

"The November Man" is a serviceable film that isn't the best of its genre but neither is it the worst. If you can ignore the plot holes and cliches, you can still enjoy this film.
