the human body

A body of information.

2016 review number 31:

The Human Body: (Documentary): 70 out of 100: The human body is a fascinating subject with its operations and complexities, enough to make you wonder how all these are achieved. Wonder no more for you are about to experience the delights of what makes the human body so special in this informative documentary.

Venture into the complex world of the human body with close-up looks of the different systems including the circulatory, respiratory, digestive and reproductive. Gain an insight into how we function and how these processes are accomplished without us having to think about them. The Pikes are about to have a baby and most of the information revolves around them, along with their nephew and niece who are staying over at their place.

Narrated by Dr. Robert Winston, Europe's leading infertility specialist, this documentary takes the audience on a fantastic voyage of well-detailed sights and sounds. The close-up images transport us to another world and fascinate us with their alien appearances. These might be normal, routine events for our bodies but when we delve into their occurrences, they seem to be straight out of a science-fiction movie. The computer images and magnified appearances will fascinate the most inquisitive of viewers.

The Human Body is informative in its own right so it doesn't need to resort to gimmicks but unfortunately, it does. There are several scenes where multiple images appear, thus minimising the impact of the IMAX

screen. The family and friends who take part in the 'acting' are unconvincing. Also, some of the music belongs in an erotic film rather than a G rated documentary.

Students who are learning about the human body are the target audience but for anyone interested in how the body works and what the insides look like, The Human Body delivers on the information presented. Ignore some of the cheesier segments of this production and you will become a medical expert in no time!
