boyhood

Boyhood (Drama/Comedy): 88 out of 100: This unique, groundbreaking film that was filmed over a 12 year period employing the same principal actors, has received probably the best reviews of an American film this year, and justifiably so. It is up there as one of the best family relationship films this century.

All the performances seem real and natural, complemented by an engrossing story and dynamic screenplay. The direction by Richard Linklater perfectly extracts these fine performances and makes full use of the richness and nuances of the script. One cannot fault the characterisations with character development one of the strongest features of this film. The lush cinematography also ensures that this film is beautiful to look at.

If there is one minor quibble, it would be that the film drags a little after the 130 minute mark and there could have been a suitable ending before the final one about 30 minutes later. It's not the perfect film because of this, but it's still a brilliant piece of work that should be seen by the masses. You will only be doing yourself a disservice for not experiencing a film that is elaborate, engaging and engrossing.
