predestination

Predestination (Science-Fiction/Thriller): 60 out of 100: The initial reviews have been most favourable with the critics positively commenting on how it confounds and challenges its audience with its thought-provoking ideas and plot devices. However, it's so confusing at times that if you prefer a more straightforward and realistic narrative, it becomes boring and uninteresting. It's also dialogue excessive with little action which makes the pacing even more lumbering to endure.

It is a time travel movie that zips around occasionally with flashbacks so you must concentrate. If you find the confusing narrative too heavy going at times, you can admire the striking and atmospheric cinematography along with a set design that deserves praise. Ethan Hawke is as reliable as ever as the agent who has been sent back to the past to try to prevent a bombing from occurring.

If you didn't like films that were confusing but critically praised like "Donnie Darko" and "Mulholland Drive" then it's best to stay away from this film. If you like to walk away from a film scratching your head and wondering what the heck it was all about, you will probably enjoy "Predestination".
