the maze runner

The Maze Runner (Action/Science Fiction): 74 out of 100: Here's another film based on a popular series of books for young adults. It's not unique as the concepts are similar to those explored in films like "Cube" and "Lord of the Flies" but it is entertaining in its own right.

The plot focuses on a community of young men who have been deposited in an unknown location, erased of their memories. They must work together to survive and find a way out of the maze.

Since the movie's main theme is the maze, it was important to ensure that it would illustrate the stress and tension generated by such a structure. The set design has achieved this objective. All the actors who are mostly unfamiliar also do a credible job of illustrating the difficulties of living in such an environment.

Another positive feature of the movie is the music score which highlights the appropriate moments of tension. There isn't too much CGI to ruin the movie while the sound effects are executed well during the action scenes.

Although on the whole it is an enjoyable movie, the ending leaves a lot to be desired and is an obvious sign for a sequel. I haven't read the book so the ending of the movie might just be mirroring what happens in the book.
