Deliver Us From Evil

Deliver Us From Evil (Horror/Thriller): 64 out of 100: Inspired by true events, this demonic possession movie has an interesting premise but the execution is not totally successful. There are some cheap thrills of the "appear from nowhere and jump at the audience" variety but these are pretty much done to death.

Eric Bana is convincing enough as a New York cop who is investigating several bizarre crimes and is ably supported by Edgar Ramirez's priest (although you'll have to listen intently to him due to his Spanish accent). Olivia Munn is reduced to the neglected wife role where her scenes lend themselves more to melodrama. The sound effects are impressive and the dark, moody cinematography add to the tension. It's a shame that the story isn't overly satisfying due to several plot holes and incredible suspension of disbelief.

"Deliver Us From Evil" had the potential to be this generation's "The Exorcist" so it is definitely a missed opportunity.
