20,000 days on earth

20,000 Days on Earth (Documentary/Drama): 71 out of 100: An interesting documentary that blends reality with fictional drama, this film is informative without being overly exciting. It delves into the creative process of singer/musician/writer Nick Cave along with his personal background.

Even if you are not a fan of his, there is great insight into his public and private life. You will definitely be rewarded more though if you are a fan of his music as there is quite a fair bit of footage of him rehearsing and performing. He is not the best of singers going around but he does have introspective lyrics that are expressed with emotion and feeling.

There are some moments that are obviously staged and the viewer will easily see that it's not a natural, conventional documentary. Examples of these scenes include cameos by Ray Winstone and Kylie Minogue.

Nick Cave comes across as a brooding, philosophical presence so if you don't mind these traits in a person, you should be able to appreciate and enjoy this study of a creative artist.
