fury

Fury (War/Action/Drama): 73 out of 100: Set in World War II, "Fury" details the Allies' stand against the Nazis in their homeland. The story centres on an army sergeant (Brad Pitt) who commands a tank nicknamed "Fury" along with his men which includes a rookie soldier. Little is known about these men as there really isn't much of a back story, which doesn't really help you empathise with the characters.

There is a fair bit of mumbling from some of the characters which makes it difficult to understand what they are saying. To add to this problem, they dish out lots of technical jargon. It's not the best script around due to the lack of characterisation and excessive war talk. What it lacks in these departments, it more than makes up for in the action scenes.

Seeing this on an IMAX screen sure increased the excitement levels of the film. All the war scenes were magnified as a result of seeing this on the largest screen possible. The sound and visual effects made the viewer feel as if they were actually in the trenches, that's how realistic the explosions were. The gunfire and blasts reverberated in the cinema, causing some viewers to jump in their seats.

There are some brilliant moments of tension especially in the scene where the characters find themselves in a lady's home. There is also another standout scene where the rookie soldier witnesses the atrocities of war and is forced to be an active participant in the violence of it all. However, there are also some scenes where the exchange of dialogue isn't as mesmerising as the action scenes are.

Although the final scenes are a tad on the unrealistic side with one tank against hundreds of soldiers, "Fury" earns its stripes based on the incredible action scenes throughout the film which are exciting, pulsating and electrifying.
