Annabelle (Horror): 66 out of 100: The creepy doll from "The Conjuring" gets to have her own movie in this prequel of sorts. There are some scares to be experienced but unfortunately, several of these can already be seen in the trailer.

A young man gives his pregnant wife a doll to add to her collection. Why anyone would want such an ugly doll in the first place is questionable. The couple experiences all sorts of ghastly shenanigans once the doll enters their household.

If you don't see the trailer, then you will enjoy the full gamut of scares. Although the darkly lit scenes are a cliche of horror movies, in this instance they serve their purpose well. The music score with its screeching violins is also a staple of the horror genre.

The movie is shot at a leisurely pace to assist in developing the characters. Some of these are cliche characters which horror buffs would have seen before. Alfre Woodard is the only cast member this reviewer is familiar with and she is as dependable as ever.

This is not as good as "The Conjuring" but it is not as bad as the early reviews have made it out to be.
