laggies

2015 review number 7:

Laggies: (Comedy/Romance): 68 out of 100: This likely direct to DVD release in Australia is another entry in the romantic comedy genre. It's a reasonable film that isn't boring but isn't overly special either. It's a rather enjoyable film that won't last too long in the memory.

Keira Knightley who seems to be one of the current queens of romantic comedies, stars as Megan who has just received a proposal from her long-term boyfriend, Anthony (Mark Webber). Confused and panicking, she leaves her friend's wedding reception where her boyfriend has proposed to her, and winds up at a convenience store where she bumps into a girl, Annika (Chloë Grace Moretz) who wants her to buy some liquor. Megan becomes her mentor and stays at her house for a week to reevaluate her life for a week. Things become more confusing when Annika's dad, Craig (Sam Rockwell), enters the picture.

"Laggies" doesn't offer anything new but will make viewers happy if they are after something familiar. It doesn't provide any huge laughs but there are some lines that will make you smile or giggle quietly. You just wish that some of the scenes would push the envelope a little further.

Knightley convinces as the undecided to do with her life, Megan. She shows why she is a capable romantic/comedy actress with her alluring personality. Rockwell is an underrated actor who deserves more leading character roles. Moretz proves yet again that she is one of the leading teen stars and should have a long career ahead of her.

"Laggies" was released in the US last year and made a paltry $440,000 at the box office. It deserves a far better reception than that because there are many other romantic comedies that are worse and have made much more money than this mostly entertaining film.

Starring Keira Knightley, Chloë Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell
