hotel transylvania 2

2015 review number 147:

Hotel Transylvania 2: (Animation/Comedy/Family): 68 out of 100: The sequel to 2012's Hotel Transylvania is more of the same so if you enjoyed the original you should like the follow-up. Most of the characters return with several new additions, namely the human cast which is introduced as a result of the wedding between the human Jonathan (Andy Samberg) and vampire Mavis (Selena Gomez).

Mavis' father is Dracula (Adam Sandler). He is still operating Hotel Transylvania and has something else on his mind...planning the wedding of his daughter and Jonathan. After a year, they have baby Dennis. Dracula hopes that his grandson can be a vampire just like him and not adopt the genes of Jonathan to be a human. If he doesn't turn into a vampire before his fifth birthday, Dennis (Asher Blinkoff) will never become a vampire. With the help of his friends like Frankenstein (Kevin James), Wayne (Steve Buscemi) and Griffin (David Spade), Dracula attempts to scare the fangs out of Dennis while his parents are away in California scouting for a place to live in the human world.

This should appeal to children with its colour, fast-moving images and crazy characters. However, some of the references to violent actions might be inappropriate for them. Of course being an Adam Sandler written movie, there is some juvenile humour which will alienate him from some adult audiences but if you enjoy his sense of humour like I do, then you won't mind the jokes. The first half of the story is not as exciting as the second half with the race against time to become a vampire being pivotal in elevating the interest level.

The music by Mark Mothersbaugh is wonderful and helps generate the right atmosphere to blend in with the visuals, especially in the action scenes. It's the actions from the characters that will keep children amused while there's enough action for adults to be entertained if you prefer action over comedy.

The standout voices are Samberg, Sandler and Buscemi. They provide most of the laughs with the delivery of their lines. It was great to hear Mel Brooks as Dracula's father and Binkoff is cute as Dennis.

Obviously fans of Sandler will enjoy this more than those who despise him. When Dracula is speaking, you can just picture Sandler in the human form. There's enough laughs and action to make this enjoyable and entertaining for the whole family.

Featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi and David Spade
