The King and I
I watched the stage musical on Tuesday night and I was very impressed with the costumes and set decoration. I still prefer the movie though. I guess I am just used to the film version and who can forget the presence of Yul Brynner who simply owned that role? Nobody could ever replace him. Teddy Tahu Rhodes looked out of place as he was too tall and too Anglo to play that role. Lisa McCune was her usual reliable self and is a fantastic stage performer. I have now seen her in three musicals, the others being "The Sound of Music" and "South Pacific". I am glad I saw "The King and I" because I love my Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, even though the film version is better.
